Frieze Los Angeles 2023 Temporary Staff

Frieze is returning to Los Angeles in February 2023, taking place for the first time at Santa Monica Airport between the 16-19th February. The fair expands this year to feature more than 120 galleries, including new specialists in 20th-century art, alongside restaurants and Frieze Projects spread across the multiple sites. We are seeking temporary staff to fill the following roles.

Accreditation Team: This team issues passes to all personnel working and exhibiting at the fair. Applicants should be IT literate and comfortable using databases. Good people management skills and experience working with the public and/or contractors in a very fast-paced environment are essential. This role needs to have a good understanding of the security issues surrounding the fair and liaise with security as necessary. This position starts the week prior to Frieze week.

Coat check Team: This team implements and executes a methodical system to ensure the smooth drop off and collection of items at the coat check. This is a public facing position that is important to the overall visitor experience of Frieze. Applicants should be friendly, organized, and collaborative. This position involves extended periods of standing and manual handling.

Distribution Team: These positions are physical and involve a high degree of manual handling. This team assists the Marketing and Production departments with set-up and onsite deliveries. Applicants should be dynamic, enthusiastic, highly communicative, and reliable.

Exhibitor Assistants: These positions are customer service based, and entail assisting the Exhibitor team with exhibitor queries and other aspects of fair management, while also performing general runner tasks. Exhibitor Assistants begin work the week prior to the fair, and the contract concludes on Monday, February 21st. Applicants should have good interpersonal, organizational and computer skills, as well as experience working in a fast-paced environment. A knowledge of and genuine interest in contemporary art is desirable, as is prior experience working in an art fair or gallery environment. Candidates who speak languages in addition to English are especially encouraged to apply.

Greeters: This team engages in a variety of duties including greeting guests upon arrival, helping visitors navigate the site, responding to any inquiries prior to fair entry, and performing a soft credentials check. Applicants should be outgoing, patient, detail-oriented communicators who are comfortable addressing crowds and VIP clientele. This position involves extended periods of standing. These public facing positions are incredibly important to the overall visitor experience of Frieze.

IT Runner: This position assists the IT department onsite. This role is physical and requires a high-degree of manual handling. Some computer/IT literacy is desirable.

Office Assistant: This position assists the fair organizers, primarily by answering phones, maintaining office tidiness, occasionally leaving site to go on errands, and other tasks as necessary. Applicants should be computer literate, personable, patient, organized, resourceful, and have prior experience in high-pressure professional environments.

PR/Press Team: Applicants should be personable, patient, and have strong people management skills. Prior PR or events experience desirable, as is an interest in contemporary art. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is helpful. Candidates who speak languages in addition to English are especially encouraged to apply.

Program Assistants: This team works primarily offsite, greeting guests, gallery minding, and representing Frieze at various programming activation sites. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working independently. An interest in contemporary art and prior experience working in a gallery or other public-facing arts environment is preferable. This position may involve extended periods of standing.

Publishing & Info Team: These public-facing positions, managed by the Marketing department, involve handing out fair collateral and answering questions from visitors. Familiarity with frieze publications is desirable. Applicants should be personable and outgoing, as well as comfortable with extended periods of standing.

Tour Desk Assistants: These positions are public facing and involve scheduling tours, greeting clients, and answering questions pertaining to the Tours Program at Frieze. Applicants should be fluent in English, personable and organized. Interest in and knowledge about contemporary art is desirable. Responsibilities include communicating itineraries with tour guides, setting up audio equipment for the tours (microphones and transmitters), and processing payment for on- site ticket sales.

VIP Assistants: This team works both onsite, greeting VIPs at the entrance to the fair, and offsite, staffing events at various locations throughout fair week. All positions may involve extended periods of standing. Applicants should have prior experience working with VIPs in a fast-moving environment, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to effectively handle high- pressure situations, and familiarity with database check-in systems. These public-facing positions are incredibly important to the overall visitor experience of Frieze.

Compensation for all roles is hourly; rates start at $25.00 per hour.
